IMPORTANT NEWS FLASH

In April 2008, an alliance was formed between the Kawartha ATV Association and the Haliburton ATV Association. This partnership was imposed on the two clubs by their respective municipalities who told the two organizations that if they couldn't stop feuding over the railtrail, neither club would be allowed access to this vital link between the two neighbouring ATV clubs.

Unfortunately, in the process, Kawartha was compelled to abandon the EOTA alliance which it had shared with a dozen other ATV organizations in Ontario. So now, ATVers in Ontario are faced with a "good news / bad news" scenario....good for residents of Kawartha Lakes or Haliburton who ride exclusively in their own jurisdiction, but bad for ATVers from other regions of Ontario who want to support their local ATV club, but still ride the Victoria railtrail to access the Crown land ATV trails of Highlands East. These hugely popular central Ontario ATV trails include the infamous "Goat trail," treacherous "Green's Mountain," and the hugely popular "5-Points Trail System," (as well as all the trails mapped and described on the "TRAILS" page of this website.)

ATVing in HIGHLANDS EAST

The Haliburton Highlands is a unique part of Ontario. Its rugged Canadian Shield terrain is one of the most popular destinations in Ontario for all types of trail users. Most of the region is rarely visited by humans due to the fact that it consists largely of deep forest. It is this remote interior that has become one of the most intriguing natural attractions in this part of Central Ontario. Other than loggers, trappers, and canoe trippers, few outdoor enthusiasts have been able to experience this remote part of Haliburton County.

The ATV has introduced a whole new category to Ontario's spring and fall tourism industry. The village of Haliburton, and the neighbouring municipality of Highlands East, provide ATVers with one of the most popular ATV trail riding packages in the province of Ontario. Not only is there a diverse infrastructure of Crown land and rail trails, but the local government has opened all county roads, as well as most municipal roads to ATVs, in order to facilitate ATV trail access. Riders in the region have a vast inventory of trails to choose from including the infamous Haliburton Goat Trail, the IB&O railtrail to Wilberforce, the legendary 5-Points trail system, the Victoria rail trail, and of course Green's Mountain, etc.

Whether you're a hardcore mud-seeker, extreme rock climber, a leisurely scenery and wildlife-seeker, or an enthusiastic geocacher, the village of Haliburton, and the municipality of Highlands East, offer the whole deal for your ATV getaway. Visit the TRAILS page of this website for more specific info on the extensive array of trails available to riders in this unique part of Ontario's Canadian Shield.

Riders can park their trucks and trailers right in town for a day adventure, or spend a night/weekend at one of the areas many accommodators with direct access to the trails
